Sun Flower Fields

I have to say, I was taken back more by this place than the lavender fields. I always found sunflowers so beautiful and not only for their bright yellow colours, but also because they represent “friendship”. When you’re in a sea of them, it’s hard not to feel their beauty and all that they represent.
However, not everyone is able to be respectful of nature and all it has to offer. Boggle Seed farm has been shut down until further notice due to the chaos it has caused by visitors. When I found that out, I was outright disappointed in humanity. We are already taking so much away from our beautiful planet… is there anything we can admire without destruction?
I think this was a wake up lesson for me and many bloggers out there and our roles as influencers. We are not here just to share beautiful places but to encourage everyone to also be respectful of nature.
Although there are other sunflower fields (Davis Feed and Farm) I encourage all of us to remember to be kind to nature and really take in the beauty!
Also, we can’t forget about some fashion tips: Wear a dress. It’s just so beautiful with all the sunflowers and wear colours that compliment yellow like red, white, orange, or pink! A straw hat is always a cute final touch as well!
I have linked some red dresses below if you’re planning on going next year!

I hope that if you do decide to go next year, you remember to take in all the beauty. The flowers only bloom for 2 weeks so make plans ahead of time and try going during the weekday to avoid high traffic!

Always Remember: It’s not about brand, it’s about style!

Gifts That Give Back

Last year I decided to create a gift guide for items that gives back. I personally love a thoughtful gift and one that continues to give back. It makes gift giving that much more special. Although some items may seem more expensive, think about the proceeds that will go towards a charity or a cause. I’ve linked the list I made last year here.

I’ve created a new list with the items that I’m currently loving:

1. The Giving Keys

If you’re not familiar with The Giving Keys you are in for a treat! They have a variety of styles and metal colours. Each key comes with a message (you can even create your own!) hand crafted by a person who is homeless. Through the cause, they are able to use the money towards college classes or other training programs to further build their life!

2. BootayBagThis is a subscription that’s perfect for any girl because lets be real who doesn’t love new undies every month? You can also pick the type (full, thong or mix!) and you’re good to go. For $12 a month you get 2 undies! Also, with every hashtag  #undermatters BootayBag will donate a $1 to Melanoma Foundation.

3.ME to We

This one touches close to my heart. The items from Me To We help people in third world countries build stable and thriving communities to help them support themselves. I personally LOVE their dainty bracelets. They even have gifts for guys and stocking stuffers.

4.Aldo Shoes

Yaaaaas!! Cute running shoes AND they give back! The net proceeds of the Aldo Mx sneakers will help those most at risk get access to education.

5. Diff Eye Wear

Not only are they affordable sunglasses, but with every purchase of sunglasses, Diff Eye Wear will donate one pair of reading glasses to those in need. They also have a variety of styles to choose from!

There you have it…my top 5 gift ideas that are not only thoughtful, but also give back to those in need!

Always Remember: It’s not about brand, it’s about how you style it!

Bedroom Reveal

Only 10 months later and I am FINALLY done my bedroom! Well… I still need to change the light fixture to a chandelier but other than that, ALL  D O N E.. YASSSSS! I am so excited to share this as it has been a working progressing for so long (especially trying to find decorations for my shelves).  I have also included a DIY and you’ll see the biggest mistake I made! Basically everything you see has been bought from Homesense and Ikea.

My favourite part of my room has to be the shelf and the gallery wall.

So, yes that a custom made sign! The eyelash poster is also custom made by the sweetest girl WrittenByLisa . She creates custom made signs, cards,  and anything else calliagraphy you can think of!

And here is the office manager, hard at work…heheh

Little secret: I keep my hair styling stuff in that cute little box so it looks clean and organized. I also spray painted my garbage bin that I picked up from Homesene!

So if you didn’t guess it yet, the gold shelf was my DIY project. I found this link and followed exactly what they said. I just didn’t do the marble shelves. However, the biggest mistake that I did do which you can kind of see it in the photos, is that I sprayed the shelves in winter. Do N O T do that! It didn’t dry properly and the finish wasn’t as nice as I would have liked it to be. The best time would be spring, or fall or end of summer so it’s not too cold or too hot.

How cute is this card that I framed? The rabbit is actually made after me! One of my best friends creates hand-made cards and the cutest fashionable mousies. You can follow her work here.

This is also a special piece as it was made by a friend for me. I love the idea of a shadow box and she included all the things that represent me. Apple for being a teacher, I’m always a dreamer (hence the clouds and “follow your heart”). Money to represent luck, flowers to represent our friendship. The map shows how I love to travel and the three flowers in the middle represent my family (I’m an only child). I actually cried when I received that as a birthday gift.

I picked up this coat hanger from Homesense and used it to hang my purses and hats!

I hope you enjoyed my bedroom reveal. I worked really hard to make it represent me (the grown up version haha). I also took change to represent a new chapter of my life of blogging and being a teacher.

Let me know in the comments below what your favourite part is!

Always Remember: It’s not about brand, it’s about how you style it!

Gifts That Give Back

I love how the holidays remind me of love, happiness and a time to give back. The decorations, the gift giving, the hot chocolate, the snow ball fights…I love it all! I decided to create a gift guide of items that give back to a charity.

What better gift than one that gives back! Look below for all the details.

  1. Dogeared has partnered with Penh Lenh, a Cambodia-based organization that works to empower women with professional skills and help them create independent, bright futures for themselves. When you purchase any of their items, Dogeared will donate 100% of the net profits to Penh Lenh’s Hope for Justice Cambodia Programming. I love how beautiful this necklace is and for only $44 it’s a steal!

2.Black Jaguar White Tiger is a foundation that rescues as many animals in need from sad circumstances like circuses, breeding facilities (Both legal and illegal) and from people that have them as pets, providing them with a home, the best food and medical care available, and a life of dignity and love for the rest of their lives. Their clothing line gives back to the charity while you show your support! If you are not familiar with this foundation look them up on Instagram and Facebook, their daily videos will make your heart melt!

3.The Giving Keys, this one is one of my favourite gift items. Last year I gave each of my best friends a Giving Key necklace. The Giving Keys uses old keys and engraves inspirational words. The company hires people who are in transition out of homelessness. So each key support a staff who is homeless. In addition, they also encourage you to pass on your key when you believe in your heart the key has done it magic for you. It can’t get more sentimental than that!

4.Make A WishCan you believe that’s a greeting card? How beautiful! The card (they have a ton more online!) is from Make A Wish Canada . Each card features a beautiful holiday scene created by a Canadian artist. Proceeds go to Make-A-Wish, an organization that creates magical memories for kids with life-threatening conditions.

5.Me to WeEvery purchase gives a life-changing gift to a child or family in WE Charity’s partner communities, from school supplies to health care to alternative income opportunities and more. And thanks to our Track Your Impact tool, you get a close-up look at where your gift was delivered and how it transforms a life (how awesome is that?!) I also love how dainty and pretty their bracelets are!

  1. Diff Eye Wear, for every pair of sunglasses sold they will donate a pair of reading glasses. The company has partnered with a woman named Sherry Grigsby, founder of Eyes on Africa, with the intention to provide eyeglasses to people in need. Eyes on Africa is a charitable non-profit organization, that provides eyeglasses at no cost to Africans through distribution in communities with no access to vision care. It also helps that their sunglasses are super cute!

7.Yoga Design Lab creates beautiful yoga towels that are non-toxic and eco-friendly. The company donates $1 from every purchase to Urban Youth Yoga Programs in need.

8.Sorry, did you say a wine that gives back?!? This must be heaven! When you purchase a bottle of wine or any other product from OneHope they donate to their partnered charities!! LOVE this idea!

9.Kind Campaign is a campaign that focuses on kindness to help end female to female bullying by hosting assemblies at schools. If you haven’t heard about this campaign I highly suggest watching their documentary (trailer is on Youtube). Although they don’t have that specific t shirt anymore, they have other t shirts and items that you can purchase to help donate to this great cause!

10.Serioulsy, how cute is this doll? I was thinking of ordering one for myself (yes I still enjoy hugging stuffed dolls haha). First, each doll comes with 10 tokens for children to give out as acts of kindness. Each token is imprinted with “Pay it forward” to lift spirits and encourage recipients to commit their own act of kindness. Each doll sold, The Doll Kind will donate a doll to a less fortunate child. Donation sites include orphanages, hospitals, shelters, and more throughout the United States and across the world. I cant imagine a more perfect gift for a little girl (or an adult who is like me haha).

I really hope you enjoyed looking through this list and it has helped you think about purchasing a gift that gives back.  Is there another item you have bought that helps out a charity? Comment below!
