12 Pieces-20 Outfits

It’s back to school time and for my fellow teachers it is that time of the year where we need to think about our daily outfits making sure it’s appropriate and comfortable.  Fall is also a tricky season where it’s cold in the morning and scorching hot by 12!

I love planning my outfits from the night before so  I can  sleep in and not be stressing about tops not matching my bottoms or trying to find pants from the laundry basket (don’t judge, you know we’ve all done that).

So, to help out all the teachers and 9-5’ers I have used 12 classic pieces and created outfits for the entire month. You most likely already own these pieces and if not, it is time to invest my friend because these simple but classic pieces will be in your closet forever!

blog 6

Wicker Love

I am going to reveal my best kept styling secret… PINTEREST! I often look for inspiration and outfit ideas on Pinterest, then go to my closet and create a similar look.  The last few weeks I have become obsessed with owning a wicker bag after seeing these pins:

I even had my best friends go on a hunt anytime they were out shopping. I wanted the bag to be firm and big enough for the beach. I was able to finally find the perfect bag at H&M. The bag has tassels, but I decided to take it anyways and put the tassels in when I didn’t want them.

Here is my version of the pins that I found!

Giant Cookie Cake

image2

On June 28th it was my boyfriend’s champagne birthday and instead of a boring normal cake I wanted to go BIG. I’ve been following different Instagram accounts of bakeries that make giant cookies. I was debating on ordering one when I decided to make one myself!  Not only was he surprised but he couldn’t believe that I made it! The cookie was soft and delicious but sturdy enough to hold all the decorations.

image3 (1)

Here is the recipe I followed for the cookie cake:

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • ¾ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 ¼ cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips

*The recipe calls for walnuts but I skipped that

Direction:

  1. In large bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well.
  2. Gradually add flour, salt, and baking soda, beating until well blended. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts.
  3. Spread in greased 14 inch round pizza pan. Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 20-25 minutes. Cool cookie in pan on a cooling rack. Decorate as desired.

*I used a 10 inch round pizza pan to make it thicker. I found that the cookie would’ve been really thin in anything bigger.

I began with the icing which I chose half Nutella, half peanut butter.

I decided to use KitKat, M&M, Caramel Rolls and Orero Cookies to decorate the cake. I began working on my rows.

Tadaaaa! The finished product!

Toronto Wine & Spirit Festival

IMG_7625

Last weekend I attended the Toronto Wine and Spirit Festival for the first time at Cherry beach! I have to say I was really impressed with the crowd.  I am usually used to the young-rowdy crowd at Beer Festival. However, I noticed that everyone was super chill, for most part sitting around and socializing like REAL grown ups! Hahah

The festival is $35 for entry ticket and you get 5 tokens, after that each token is a $1. There are endless options from Beer to Vodka to Ciders to Gin to Rum. They also sell Cigars to complement your rum, for the full Cuban experience.  My favourite drink had to be the sangria from Jacob’s Creek (they even had a little recipe card to take with you!).

The different vendors also offered a variety of food from oysters to fish tacos to jerk chicken.image2

Outfit Details: I purchased this cute little white top from Garage Clothing (similar here) and I paired it with my favourite ripped jean shorts from Urban Planet.  I also tied a silk scarf to add a pop of colour!

I had such a great time at the festival enjoying the live music, the sand and the breeze coming from Lake Ontario. One thing I forgot to bring was a blanket, which would’ve made the experience even better by being able have a “picnic”. It was a great event for someone who enjoys a more social and chill-out vibe.

Cold Shoulders For Spring!

I have become obsessed with off the shoulder tops and dresses! They are so versatile and for those of us who can’t show off our sexy shoulders at work, you can simply pull it up to cover your shoulders and pull it down for the after hours!

I have bought three of them (so far) in: white, colour and pattern.

image1 (5)

The white will go with anything, the pattern has a soft spring vibe to it and the colour is a great statement piece.

Found similar ones from forever 21: White, Pattern and in Black

Let’s not forget they can be paired up with almost anything from jeans to skirts to shorts! As for accessories, add a statement earring, a choker or a long necklace to accentuate your sexy shoulders.

P.S. throw on a cute blazer for those cold spring mornings!

Niki

How To Dress for Win-Pring

FullSizeRender (44)

We have managed to survive another winter in Toronto as we wait patiently for spring! Except sometimes it STILL feels like winter. The crazy weather makes it unpredictable to decide whether you should be wearing your light trench coat or thick winter jacket.  I am calling this new “season” WIN-PRING! I’ll be showing you different statement pieces to help you look stylish and be warm during the end of the winter months and beginning of spring. Here are my top five must haves:

  1. Leather Jacket

A leather jacket is stylish, will keep you warm and can be dressed up or down. Also for all the Toronto fashionistas, Danier is having their closing sales and most jackets are 75% off! If you’ve been looking into purchasing a new leather jacket NOW is your time!

  1. Bright Sweaters & Layering

Since it still feels like winter and you need to keep warm, wear a bright sweater (white, pink, blue, green etc) under your leather jacket. This way you are warm yet your outfits are springy.

You can also wear a sleeveless chiffon top underneath a sweater for the layering look (make sure the top is longer than the sweater so it peeks out from under the sweater).

  1. Booties

You can definitely put your Sorelles and knee high boots away, but keep those booties! This is the best time to wear them. They will keep you warm (wear ankle socks) while showing off a spring look.

  1. Sunglasses

With the sun gracing its presence more often, always have a pair of sunnies handy. Pick out funky colours, or shapes to use as a statement piece.

  1. Felt Hat

Nothing more stylish than a hat that will keep you warm and take your outfit from boring to street style ready! Pick one that complements the shape of your face and a neutral colour to be able to match it with any outfit.

Continue to be stylish even in cold weather, next blog post I’ll be talking about Spring  statement pieces!

1 Shirt, 6 Outfits!

IMG_2600

After the holiday rush and gloomy January days, my weekends became about birthdays, concerts and get togethers with friends. With so many different events, I decided to hunt for a versatile shirt that I could dress-up and down and everything else in between.  I found this beautiful burgundy sleeveless mock neck at Garage for only $16! I styled this shirt 6 different ways for different occasions.

1. Girls Night Out

I styled this top with a leather skirt and booties for an edgy street-style look.

2. Date Night

I matched the top with ripped black skinny jeans and pointed heels. I also accessorized the look with a chunky necklace for a more romantic and dressy look (see my previous post about chunky necklaces).  The burgundy is a great pop of colour and it complements any skin tone!

 3. Concert

I recently went to a concert and I wore the mock neck top with black shorts, panty-hoes and black sneakers. Again I used the top as my “pop of colour”.  I completed the look with a mohawk braid for a boho-edgy-chic look.

4. Weekends

My weekend attire always includes ripped jeans, since I can’t wear them to work. They are super comfy and versatile. So of course my love for ripped jeans met my new found love:  the sleeveless mock neck shirt.

5. Work

Being a teacher, comfort is always number one on my list and being stylish doesn’t hurt either! I decided to layer the top by wearing it with a denim button down and simple black skinny jeans.

6. Everyday Chic

For an everyday chic style I wore my grey skinny jeans and added drama with a statement jacket. The neutrals balanced nicely with the burgundy colour.

Do you have other ways to style this top? Comment below and let me know!

Niki

Natural Beauty Tricks

All Natural Beauty Tricks for the Winter Months

IMG_0621

Hello to the season of cozy knits, warm drinks and binge watching.  This is also the time of the year where we skip on some of our beauty routines to get a few more minutes of sleep.  However, now is the most important time to bring moisture back into our hair, lips, and skin!

I am a huge fan of all-natural-at-home-remedies for everything and anything. However, at times I find it hard to follow when there are too many ingredients or when it includes items I have to actually go and buy.

Sooo, I did my research and I found the top 4 beauty tricks with 3 INGREDIENTS OR LESS!

  1. Chapped Lips: I find my lips chapped and dry all the time during the winter months no matter how much lip balm I use.

Solution: Coconut Oil & Sugar Scrub

blog pic 2

I use this scrub twice a week to get rid of my chapped lips and give it the moisture it needs.  How to use: Mix a tablespoon of white or brown sugar with a touch of Coconut Oil to create a scrub.  Rub it on your lips and let it sit for 1 minute.  Gently wipe it off with a wet paper towel and apply lip balm to protect the new skin

2. Dull Hair: During the winter months the cold air makes our hair dry and dull.

Solution: Apple Cider Vinegar

blog pic1

Apple Cider Vinegar helps remove residue and product buildup. How to use: Give your hair instant shine by adding a tablespoon of vinegar to 4 cups of warm water. Use it to rinse your hair after conditioner.

3. Dry Skin: It is very important to take care of our skin and bring the moisture back when is it constantly exposed to the cold weather.

Solution:  Avocado, Banana & Honey Face Mask

FullSizeRender (14)
This mask works great for moisturizing your skin! Avocado is rich in minerals, vitamins B and E. Honey has hydrating properties that will add moisture to your skin while reducing inflammation. Bananas contain high level of potassium which hydrates and moisturizes dry skin. How to use: Mix together ½ mashed avocado, ½ mashed banana, and 1 teaspoon of honey until blended. Spread it over your face and let it sit for 15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

4. Dandruff: During the changing of the seasons, my hair becomes very dry and so does my scalp.

Solution: Apple Cider Vinegar

FullSizeRender (18)

Apple Cider Vinegar contains vitamins E, A, and P and magnesium, iron, calcium and the list goes on! How to use:  Mix Apple Cider Vinegar with equal parts water and spray onto hair. Massage the mixture into hair and let it sit for 15-30 minutes. Rinse for dandruff free hair! This treatment is safe to use until dandruff is gone.

So there you have it, 4 simple at home remedies to give your skin and hair the boost it needs.I would love to hear about which remedy you have used in the past or which one is your favourite(comment below)!
